Radiant Floor Heat Mat

Using multiple electric radiant floor heating mats When space calculations are complete, the size of the heated area in sq. ft is used to select a proper size heating mat as listed above. Often, the sq. ft number does not precisely match the mat size and it may be necessary to use or more mats to cover the entire area. NOTE: For 120V systems, the total combination of HeatTech electric radiant floor heating mats selected must not exceed 150 sq. ft per 15A thermostat. For 240V systems, radiant heating mats allow for a maximum of 300 sq. ft coverage per single 15A thermostat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Keefers from Great Product We chose this mat because of the value and the future expansion with the thermostat (remodel of bathroom, future remodel of kitchen). Installed mat above cementboard, but followed directions on CD which directed to use thinset, then place tiles on top in same step. Next time I will use self-leveling mortar to place the mat, then in the second step place the tile. We had problems ensuring the floor was level due to the increased height of the mat. I speak from the DIY’er point of view so it may not make a difference to those experienced in tile work. Overall pleased with the actual function of the mat, just wish I had followed my gut, rather than the instructions. Date published: 2007-03-31

Step 1. Lay out the ThermoTile mats on the room’s subfloor. Its flat, ultra-thin electric cable is factory-mounted on a heavy duty fiberglass mesh designed to lay flat for quick installation. Each ThermoTile mat has 10′ lead wires coming from one end of the mat which needs to be connected to the thermostat. So whether the underfloor heating mat is 5′ or 120′ long, there is no need to worry about where the mat ends. Follow a layout plan and start the mat so the lead wire reaches the thermostat location.

Example 2: An area with a total of 126 sq. ft will require a combination of several mats, as the largest radiant heating mat covers only 100 sq ft. Properly selected mat sizes will be 15 sq. ft mat and a combination of any mats totaling 110 sq. ft of coverage, i.e. 60+50, 70+40, 80+30, etc. – whichever works best for the specifics of the given project.

ThermoTile can be installed under most types of flooring, including wood, laminate, vinyl and carpet when embedded in thin-set mortar or self-leveling cement. It comes with the following features and benefits: Provides the least labor-intensive method of installing floor heat cable due to cable-on-mesh construction. The mesh can be cut to turn the mat and to custom-fit the heated area on-site. The ½” openings in the mesh allow thin-set to penetrate for a one-step tile or stone installation. The use of self-leveling cement allows for the installation of almost any type of floor covering and for later replacement of the floor covering without damage to the heating system. The factory-attached lead wire on only one end of the mat simplifies the electrical connection. The commercial-grade, fiberglass mesh holds the cable flat for easy installation and strengthens the floor serving as an anti-fracture membrane. Dual cable construction and inner foil shield virtually eliminate electro-magnetic field and interference with electronic appliances. 1/8″ thin cable limits raising the floor height to the thickness of the mortar layer and the floor covering. Limited lifetime warranty UL Listed for the U.S. and Canada. Can be combined with Cerazorb® synthetic cork (sold separately) to achieve subfloor thermal insulation and uncoupling to prevent tile and grout cracking. Factory-direct prices and support. Enjoy the affordable luxury of warm tile in your bathrooms, kitchen, basement, or anywhere in your home with ThermoTile® made by ThermoSoft!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Shiny from Good Mat – Check Your Math These are fine warming mats that are inexpensive and deliver a pleasantly warm floor when warming is all that’s needed. These are NOT heaters. If your floor is actually cold these are not appropriate. You’ll want to find a solution to your cold floor problem at its source anyway. You can certainly purchase 240v and larger floor heaters but unless there’s simply no other option actively heating a floor is a losing battle and the best you can hope for is low electrical rates in your area. However, if your floors are just cooler than you’d like them be, especially in areas with tile or engineered flooring, these warming mats are great. Date published: 2016-12-31

With a radiant heat floor, the warmth rises evenly from below, so the temperature of the room is uniform from top to bottom — and your tootsies never get cold. It’s an especially nice feature in bathrooms.

Electric radiant floor heating uses electric resistance cables to produce heat. The most popular style features cables embedded in thin mats that can be installed under tile, stone, engineered wood, and laminate floors. Electric heating mats are good for retrofits.

Step 4. Make electrical connections. Connect all wires to the appropriate terminals on the thermostat. If installing more than one mat, connect each mat in parallel to the thermostat. Although simple to do, an electrician is required by the NEC and UL.
